hey make a tutorial on how to do the manual curves because it always makes my stuff look horrible, and yeah auto levels doesn't always help matters, but if you have no idea what your doing its a good starting point

Well, I'll see if I find the time to make the tutorial but I don't think I could do anything specific with it because I use curves differently everytime to achieve the effect I want depending on the quality of the image I have at hand - everything reacts different so there's no one set way to use curves. The first rule of thumb though is never apply these adjustments directly to your image, do it via layers at the bottom, so if you're going to do levels and such then at least you can easily backtrack without having to take away everything. As for curves, that's the primary way I edit my photographs, like you said at first they always made my stuff absolutely horrible but it's a matter of getting a feel for it and learning what will happen when you move that bit up, or that colour down, just play around with it You'll find you can use curves with a combination of other editing layers such as selective colour etc. to create lots of effects, give a photo a cross-processed look or a retro/vintage quality for example. There are plenty listed on the internet, perhaps try googling them!
